National 5 English is a challenging but rewarding course, allowing pupils to develop their reading skills and creativity.
Pupils will focus on at least two major texts or groups of text.

A successful National 5 pass is graded from 'A' through to 'D'. The course is assessed externally.
The grade is based both on a final exam and coursework:
Exam:
Close Reading: 30% of final grade.
Textual Analysis: 20% of final grade.
Literary Study: 20% of final grade.
Coursework:
Folio consisting of one broadly creative piece and one broadly discursive piece: 30% of final grade.
