Advanced Higher English
The Advanced Higher English course is for those pupils who have had success at Higher English and wish to undertake a sophisticated study of literature. Pupils will be given the opportunity to read and analyse classic works of literature, and to make their own choice of texts, for purposes of their specialist study. The key components of the course are:
Specialist Study - a dissertation, comparing and exploring two or more texts of the pupil's choice. Worth 40% of their final grade.
Literary Study - between them, pupils and teacher will decide to study key texts by two different authors, working in separate genres. This will enable them to answer ONE literature question in their exam. This will contribute 30% of their final grade.
The final 30% of a pupil's grade will come from ONE of the following units (typically creative writing):
