Higher English
The Higher English course is constructed identically to the National 5 course, but offers a greater degree of challenge.
This means that pupils will focus on at least two major texts or groups of text.

A successful National 5 pass is graded from 'A' through to 'D'. The grade is based both on a final exam and coursework:
Exam:
Close Reading: 30% of final grade.
Textual Analysis: 20% of final grade.
Literary Study: 20% of final grade.
Coursework:
Folio consisting of one broadly creative piece and one broadly discursive piece: 30% of final grade.
